About the Event

Hello BPWH family, Hiking is healing and we invite you to join us on this self care journey!  Being out in nature has so many benefits; improved creativity, improved academics, increased physical activity, improved social skills, reduced stress, reduced anxiety and improved self confidence!

This Sunday, May 22nd we are supporting Outdoor Journal Tour’s #WeHiketoHeal movement with a focus on healing and relaxation!

Join us for Hike + Yoga at LaBarque Creek Conservation Area!  NAMASTE!

What to expect:

Meet-up 9:00am at Larbarque Creek Conservation Area.
9:15 AM – Welcome & Intros.
9:30 AM – YOGA hosted by our fellow BPWHer & Yogi: Jakada Christmas.
10:00 AM – Hike.
1:00PM – Completion.

Hike: We will be hiking a 2.9 mile hike upon conclusion of yoga. The trail is a loop and will finish at the parking lot. Highlights of this trail include canyons and waterfalls (dependent on recent rainfall)

Yoga: Jakada Christmas will be guiding us through a easy 20-30 minutes yoga flow prior to the hike. We recommend bringing a yoga mat for your comfort.

Registration: All attendees are required to register. Everything included with this hike is complimentary, but donations are encouraged.

What to wear/pack:

  • Waterproof footwear and hiking sticks.
  • Yoga mat for yoga flow prior to the hike.
  • Water
  • Breathable athletic clothes (layer up, avoiding cotton), a jacket or sweatshirt. We suggest wearing layers to keep up with the changing temps until your body warms up in the morning coolness.
  • Backpack to hold all of your belongings, hiking boots or shoes with good traction – NO VANS.
  • Rain jacket, or emergency poncho (just in case).
  • Your favorite plant-based snack: fresh fruit, nuts, granola bars etc.

Location: LABARQUE CREEK CONSERVATION AREA: LABARQUE CREEK TRAIL. Address:Valley Dr, LaBarque Creek, MO 63069. This trail is located in Pacific Missouri. In order to find the exact meetup location please download and use the  Alltrails app and type in “LaBarque Creek Conservation Area”. Use the DIRECTIONS feature and it will take you directly to the trail head.

Time:  Meetup at 9:00 AM sharp.Please look the location up the night before and give yourself plenty of travel time. Please arrive in time.

Weather: The weather is predicted to be a perfect 70 and sunny. Lows of 48. Although no rain is predicted please be aware that this is a rain or shine event.

Level of Expertise: AllTrails states that this hike is generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 17 min to complete.

Social Distancing: *All participants must register. Walk-ups will not be allowed. Space is very limited to ensure social distancing measures and masks are required. All participants will be required to sign COVID waivers

Waivers: Everyone must sign a waiver. Waivers must be completed prior to arriving at the park. If you have not signed a 2022 Covid and Liability waiver please do so now.

Food: BPWH provides light snacks including Natures Bakery bars and water to all attendees.  Although we provide a light snack, you should pack extra for your comfort and needs. Please make sure to pack healthy snacks for the hike such as granola, beef jerky, dried fruit, as well as extra water. Snacks and water are a critical part of the hiker’s diet. We will be burning calories along the way so snacks are a great way to keep your engine running.

About Us: @blackpeoplewhohike was created to inspire people of color to step out of their comfort zones and get active outside! We meet up twice a month on Sunday mornings at different locations within the St. Louis area. Current Sunday Funday activities have included hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, and hot yoga! Future Sunday Funday activities include bicycling, skiing, and zip-lining. We have new people that join each week who are new to these various activities and we welcome that!
