Like many cities, there’s a plethora of history hidden in plane sight. Join us for part 2 of our Urban Hike series as Mr. William Hampton uncovers what was once Huntsville’s Black Wall Street, and a vibrant Black Business District. I want the Urban Hike to travel south on Church Street to Gallatin to what was once known as The Grove.
William Hampton is the founder of Huntsville Revisited , a group dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich, diverse history of Huntsville-Madison County, Alabama. You will find Huntville’s most diverse collection of photos and stories anywhere. Companion sites include Alabama Revisited, and Huntsville-Madison County Video Revisited. You can also visit Hampton at Huntsville Revisited Museum at the H.C. Blake Art & History Center.
