About the Event

CCBA Women’s History Month Social Event: Wheels and Strikes
Thursday, March 23, 2023 (5:00 – 7:30 p.m.) at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park & Family Entertainment Center

The Cook County Bar Association’s LGBTQ Section is pleased to announce a Women’s History
Month social event that celebrates the liberation and resilience of women. The Civil Rights
Movement and the Women’s Rights Movement have many things in common, including a
passion for freedom and equality.

Expressively, women in both movements organized, protested,
marched, and voted for the recognition and protection of their rights. While various styles of
resistance can be found throughout history books, roller skating is not mentioned often. Still,
skating rinks provide people with a space to protest inequality, practice self-expression, form
collective identities, and grow communities. Today, Women’s Roller Derby is a professional
sport that centers on providing women with a safe space to show their competitive emotions and
to voice their concerns for causes that are women focused.

On Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 5 to 7:30 pm, Central time, we will host a social event
at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and Family Entertainment Center, on Chicago’s south
side. Grab your tickets and join us as we skate and bowl to celebrate the history and endurance of women. Tickets are $25 and the price covers admission, skate rental, bowling shoe rental,
unlimited games of bowling, a slice of pizza and a small fountain drink. Additional concessions
are available for purchase at the venue. Family and friends are welcome to RSVP.
