About the Event

The 314 Day weekend has officially arrived!

March 14th is dedicated to hometown pride for those of us who were born and raised in St. Louis. It is a time when we gather together for a full day of celebration and represent our city, which is known as 314 Day (after the St. Louis metro area code). No matter where you are— in the middle of a city, downtown, in the suburbs, or in a rural area, —hometown glory is in full swing!

So, come out and join us as we celebrate our love of the great outdoors in our lovely city of St. Louis—we’ve missed you all.

What to expect:

  • 9:00 AM -Meet-up at the large parking lot on the left-hand side of Kiefer Creek Rd.
  • 9:15 AM – Welcome & Intros / Stretches
  • 9:30 AM – Hike. Riverscene Trail at Castlewood State Park.
  • 1pm – Completion.

Additional Information:

  1. Registration: All attendees are required to register. Everything included with this hike is complimentary, but donations are encouraged.
  2. What to wear/pack: water, breathable athletic clothes (layer up, avoiding cotton), a jacket or sweatshirt, a backpack to hold all of your belongings, hiking boots or shoes with good traction – Mittens, rain jacket, or emergency poncho (just in case). Your favorite plant-based snack: fresh fruit, nuts, granola bars etc. We suggest wearing layers to keep up with the changing temps until your body warms up in the morning coolness.
  3. Location: Castlewood State Park, Riverscene Trail. Please look the location up the night before and give yourself plenty of travel time.
  4. Directions: If you enter the park from Ries Rd, you will make a left onto Kiefer Creek Rd. About a quarter of a mile up there will be two parking lots across the street from each other. You may park in either lot, but we will meet up in the bigger lot on the left-hand side of the street. The easiest way to get there which I highly recommend is downloading the AllTrails app and searching “river scene trail loop Castlewood state park” and using the directions function from there. Otherwise, there is no exact address for the trail head.
  5. Time: Meetup at 9:00 AM sharp.
  6. Weather: Generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. High 46F. 2% chance of rain.
  7. Level of Expertise: Moderate. This is a moderately strenuous 3.1-mile hike.
  8. Social Distancing: *All participants must register and are required to sign COVID waivers. Click here for the covid waiver https://forms.gle/cantKCbQNRzSwDfi6
  9. Waivers: Everyone must sign a waiver. Waivers must be completed prior to arriving at the park. If you have not signed a 2022 Covid and Liability waiver please do so now. 10. Food: BPWH provides light snacks to include Natures Bakery bars, ginger wellness shots, and water to all attendees.  Although we provide a light snack, you should pack extra for your comfort and needs. Please make sure to pack healthy snacks for the hike such as granola, beef jerky, dried fruit, as well as extra water. Snacks and water are a critical part of the hiker’s diet. We will be burning calories along the way so snacks are a great way to keep your engine running.
  11. About Us: @blackpeoplewhohike was created to inspire people of color to step out of their comfort zones and get active outside!
