Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization founded January 13,1913 by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. Its purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. More than 300,000 women have joined this sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, and around the globe, including Japan, Germany, multiple Caribbean nations, Canada, and the Republic of Korea, the Middle East, and Southern Africa.
The Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, an organization with a rich history of over 60 years of premier public service rendered throughout Chicago, Oak Lawn, and Evergreen Park, boasts a membership of nearly 700 professional women with diverse backgrounds who render public service through the sorority’s five-point programmatic thrust – economic development; educational development; international awareness and involvement; physical and mental health and political awareness and involvement.
