About the Event

On April 22, each year, Earth Day commemorates the beginning of the contemporary environmental movement.

Join us on Sunday, April 23 for our Earth Day Hike!

We’ll be hiking the Salt Lick and Johnson Trail Loop. This is a 4-5 mile loop trail & is generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 18 min to complete.

 

What to expect:

  • 8:00 AM -Meet-up at St. John’s United Church-Christ [201 S Meyer Ave, Valmeyer, IL 62295] in the far left part of the parking lot
  • 8:15 AM – Welcome & Intros / Stretches
  • 8:30 AM – Hike. Salt Lick and Johnson Trial Loop.
  • 1pm – Completion.

 

Additional Information:

  1. Registration: All attendees are required to register. Everything included with this hike is complimentary, but donations are encouraged.
  2. What to wear/pack: water, breathable athletic clothes (layer up, avoiding cotton), a jacket or sweatshirt, a backpack to hold all of your belongings, hiking boots or shoes with good traction – Mittens, rain jacket, or emergency poncho (just in case). Your favorite plant-based snack: fresh fruit, nuts, granola bars etc. We suggest wearing layers to keep up with the changing temps until your body warms up in the morning coolness.
  3. Location: Salt Lick and Johnson Trail Loop. Please look the location up the night before and give yourself plenty of travel time.
  4. Directions: We will be meeting at St John’s United Church-Christ [201 S Meyer Ave, Valmeyer, IL 62295] in the far left part of the parking lot.
  5. Time: Meetup at 8:00 AM sharp.
  6. Weather: Generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. High 46F. 2% chance of rain.
  7. Level of Expertise: Generally considered a moderately challenging 3-mile hike.

  10. Food: BPWH provides light snacks to include Natures Bakery bars, ginger wellness shots, and water to all attendees.  Although we provide a light snack, you should pack extra for your comfort and needs. Please make sure to pack healthy snacks for the hike such as granola, dried fruit, as well as extra water. Snacks and water are a critical part of the hiker’s diet. We will be burning calories along the way so snacks are a great way to keep your engine running.

We meet up twice a month on Sunday mornings at different locations within the St. Louis area. Current Sunday Funday activities have included hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, and hot yoga! Future Sunday Funday actives include bicycling, skiing, and zip-lining. We have new people that join each week who are new to these various activities, and we welcome that!
