Join us for the opening reception of ‘Creative Soul’ featuring Paul Branton on Saturday, December 2nd, from 6 to 9 pm. Artist Statement: When I was younger, I remember several people telling me, ‘They ain’t got to do nothing but stay black and die.’ These were the essential cornerstones that I was given—life’s instructions, if you will. Yet, throughout my life, I found that it was missing the honest truths about what staying black really meant. There is a hidden power, a creative soul, in blackness that has very little to do with skin color. I am in love with this power, strength, confidence, resilience, and love that overcomes all opposition. This is the ‘stay black’ part, with its creative soul, that I resonate with the most.
